Description

This Sweet & Savory Honey Garlic Chicken is a deliciously easy recipe that features tender chicken breasts coated in a glossy, sweet and savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken – Start by patting the chicken breasts dry with a paper towel. This helps them brown beautifully in the pan. Season both sides lightly with black pepper.
  2. Sear the chicken – Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the chicken breasts in the pan and cook for about 5–6 minutes on each side. You’re looking for a nice golden color on the outside. The caramelized edges add depth to the final dish. Once cooked through, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the honey garlic sauce – In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring gently for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Next, pour in the honey and soy sauce. As the mixture heats, the sauce will begin to bubble slightly, filling your kitchen with the unmistakable aroma of Sweet & Savory Honey Garlic Chicken.
  4. Thicken the sauce – In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Stir this into the skillet sauce. Within a minute or two, the sauce will thicken into a glossy glaze.
  5. Return the chicken – Place the chicken back into the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top. Let it simmer for another 2–3 minutes so the chicken absorbs all that sweet and savory flavor. Turn the pieces once or twice so every side is coated.
  6. Garnish and serve – Finish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve the chicken over warm rice or noodles and drizzle extra sauce over everything.

Notes

  • This recipe can be served with steamed rice or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.
  • The honey garlic sauce can also be used for other proteins like shrimp or tofu.
