Description

Decadent red velvet rolls topped with a sweet vanilla glaze, perfect for any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour (Substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option.)
  • 1 cup Sugar (Consider using coconut sugar for a lower glycemic index alternative.)
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (Use dark brown sugar for a richer taste.)
  • 1 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder (Ensure it is unsweetened for the best results.)
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder (Ensure it is fresh for optimal results.)
  • 1 tsp Baking soda (Ensure it is fresh for optimal results.)
  • 1 tsp Salt (Use sea salt for a nuanced taste profile.)
  • 1 cup Milk (Use whole milk for richness, or almond milk for a dairy-free alternative.)
  • 2 large Eggs (Substitute with flax eggs for a vegan option.)
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract (Use pure vanilla extract for the best taste.)
  • 1 tbsp Gel food coloring (Avoid liquid coloring for best results.)
  • 1/2 cup Butter (Use vegan butter for a dairy-free version.)
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar (Substitute with a sugar-free powdered alternative if desired.)
  • 4 oz Cream cheese (Can be substituted with vegan cream cheese for a dairy-free version.)
  • 1 cup Heart sprinkles (Opt for edible glitter for a shimmer effect.)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until it is lukewarm, then mix it with sugar, yeast, eggs, and vanilla. Gradually incorporate the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Knead until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add gel food coloring to the dough gradually until you achieve your desired red hue. Make sure it’s well distributed.
  3. Cover the dough with a towel and place it in a warm spot to rise until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Roll the dough into a large rectangle, then spread softened butter evenly over the surface. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon, then roll tightly into a log.
  5. Use dental floss to slice the log into individual rolls, making clean cuts without squishing them.
  6. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for approximately 25 minutes.
  8. Let the rolls cool slightly before drizzling with a vanilla glaze made from powdered sugar, cream cheese, and a little milk.

Notes

  • For a vegan option, replace eggs with flax eggs and use vegan butter and cream cheese.
  • Ensure all baking ingredients are fresh for best results.
  • Feel free to decorate with additional sprinkles or edible glitter for special occasions.
