Description

This recipe yields a delicious raisin buttermilk dough ball, perfect for baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup raisins, plumped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl by hand with a spoon, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Stir in the buttermilk and raisins until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly-floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes. It should be soft and malleable but not overworked.
  5. Pat it into a 4-inch dough ball and place on the pan. Cut an X into the top with a serrated knife.
  6. Bake 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before slicing.
  7. Place raisins in a bowl. Pour hot water over top until raisins are completely submerged. Let sit 5 minutes or until plumped. Drain and pat dry before using.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the buttermilk is at room temperature.
  • Optional: Plump the raisins for added sweetness and texture.
